Vegan crumble topping

yaela123 · 06/08/2017 11:55

We have a vegan relative staying and just picked loads of blackberries so I wanted to make blackberry and apple crumble

What should I use instead of butter in the topping? Does anyone have a really good recipe they've made before?

Thanks!

I've used vegan butter/ spread to make crumble topping. Works fine.

I just use a dairy free spread like vitalite or pure - you can use it exactly the same as you would butter.

I use coconut oil

I was going to say dairy free spread like Pure, but coconut oil instead sounds amazing! You could add deciciated coconut too and make it a blackberry and coconut crumble

I've used Pure for baking before, it worked really well

I use Vitalite, works fine.

I would vote vitalite. I made some this weekend with Trex (Vege fat) and it didn't crumble very well. Gonna try vitalite next time.

I melt coconut oil and mix it with flour, sugar and oats so it is clumpy which is how I like it but you could put more dry stuff in and make it finer. Yum

Stork in a tin foil packet and the supermarket own brand equivalent are dairy free and make a good crumble topping, I've also used Vitalite.

Thanks for this post, will have to try this!

Coconut oil works really well!
