We're off to Dittisham, near Dartmouth next Friday. I'm assuming we will have run out of sunshine by then so, apart from donning anoraks and wellies and hitting the beach anyway, what can we do if it rains? And in the unlikely event of the weather holding, where are the best beaches? And are Totnes and Dartmouth the best places for nice little shops for MIL to potter round?

hello, welcome, i live in the vicinity!

Totnes--nice little shops, steep hill, hippies, China Blue(near train station) for great wet weather paint your own stuff, and good food.

Dartmouth, also quite good shops, tho the poor place had a fire a few weeks ago which destroyed some of the historical bits. The Sloping Deck restaurant is a must for a pasty, cream tea or huge slice of homemade cake. It's over the Butterwalk, and it is a sloping restaurant as it's so old lol!!!

You will be nearest to Blackpool sands, slapton sands, being in Ditsum ( how the locals pronounce it!!)

If you have a car check out Woodlands, which is a beautiful and brilliant play place, just outside Dartmouth. Kingsbridge is nice, and places that I love are Bantham beach, Hope cove, --totally oldy worldy tiny fishing vilage.

i am sure the sun will shine, it's been fab until today, but tis blowing over by 2morro!!

oh and of course, there's the steam railway, at totnes. theres also one at Kingswear, which is across the estuary from Dartmouth, and you can go on the foot ferry from Dartmouth and go on the steam railway.
A lovely farmy day out is also to be had at Pennywell.
