Holiday cottage in Scotland or Wales with an open fire

We are hoping to go away in December this year, I'd like a cottage with an open fire that sleeps 2, very comfy sofas, large comfortable bed and no musty smell. A decent local pub and/or restaurant, very quiet, places to walk, scenery. Somewhere in Wales or Scotland, anyone got any ideas?
Yes I plan early!

"somewhere" in scotland or Wales????

That's quite a big area!

Yes, I know! I really don't mind where in Scotland or Wales, I love the UK full stop, just had an amazing week in Port Isaac but the cottage was a let down, hard sofas, lousy bed, musty, with old and broken items, so really looking for picture book and seriously comfy for long nights by the fire - exactly where, I don't really care! And if I could order snow outside that'd be even better...

I have used a website that have a great choice of 4 and 5 star luxury cottages in wales, we have been on 2 breaks with them this year already and found them to be great value for money www.bestofwales.co.uk and if you click on 'search and book' you can put your dates in, number of people and choose an open fire as an option - good luck! Hope you find somewhere and have a great break and cross fingers for snow!

Wales? Look here! It is the BEST self-catering cottage co I know. (disclaimer - nothing to do with them, we've had three very successful holidays in Wales with them and the properties are stunning.) If it's just two of you going, no kids, I can really recommend this one. It has a woodburner that is very snug (and you can have the door open - I've toasted marshmallows in it!), a lovely downstairs with 2 comfy sofas and a well-planned kitchen bit, and the bathroom's fine, and you sleep upstairs in the loft bit. V close to lovely peaceful beaches, beautiful countryside.

All of the Under The Thatch properties are beautiful in and outside - the owner of the companyn is an architectural historian and passionate about preserving Welsh buildings. Some are more modern inside, others are historical - all are very unlike the shabby interiors you can get in self-catering. We also stayed here for a week and it was lovely too - a bit more primitive, but the building is stunning (it's a mud cottage, plastered over!) and the area is lovely. A little further from the sea.

Have a look at their listings - they have loads of wonderful places and I'd like to try them all!
