Splashlandings at alton towers

Looking into a break here but see the hotel package requires a kings ransom (2 adults, 1 child 1 infant age3 )- has anyone been and stayed nearby in say a rpemier in or something similar nearby or isnt there any or is staying in the hotel a must?
Is it worth a visit and is there enought to do for whole day or would we be bored afetr 2 hrs?

hiya, we went to splashlandings a year ago, did not stay in the hotel, (we had a day pass for alton towers and day pass for splashlandings)
It is a fab place, my kids x 3 were 7, 11,14 and I thought we would only manage a few hours....We were the last to leave it was a Blast, and the kids still would like to go back...wish we had stayed in the hotel as it looks fun but it is a wee bit expensive, we were about 20miles away in the grottiest horrible hotel, so it is worth getting somewhere closer.
At splashlandings on poolside there is a cafe for drinks and sandwiches etc.

thankyou it did - yes im would love to stay in the hotel but a bit skint this yr so was hoping someone would come up with a premier in or such nearby, glad there is lots to do - would you say it would be ok for non swimming 7 and 3 yr old?

It is expensive if you pay full price. We have stayed there a couple of times when we could get a cheap deal (Sunday nights are usually the cheapest and Mondays are quiet in the water park). Its also cheaper when the theme park is shut. There are also half price offers available during the week over the summer holidays on cereal packets/newspapers etc.

Failing that, how about staying at the youth hostel at Ilam Park - its about 9 miles away on a fabulous National Trust estate in the Peak District. Its just been refurbished. Basic but you have open access to the grounds and good fun and relaxed if you have small children!

We've been lots of times - always on cheap nights or when the theme park is shut. I'm sorry to tell you it's really very good. Can't beat geting your swimming gear on the kids in your room, sticking a poncho on them, and heading down to the water park in the lift.

Then zoom back up, fling on their party gear and head to the lttle bar area for the kids disco and party games. It's not too crazy, not too loud, just like a large party really.

We have always had a brilliant time. Totally fine for non swimmers too. Just point out the deep areas and they will have a grand time going up and down all the climbing frames etc.

We stayed 3 days and were not in the least bit bored.

Forgot to say - they have family rooms with 2/4/6 beds so you don't have to stay in dormitories (actually, I don't think you can with very small children anyway!).

We have just returned from break at Alton Towers, we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Stoke on Trent/Newcastle Under Lyme.

We booked it as a Mystery Hotel through Superbreak, was £39.00 per room for 4 including breakfast (2 children were free).

The hotel has swimming pool, gym etc.

If booked via Quidco you also get 8.5% cashback, a real bargain!!!
It was really good value for money. The hotel also offer 25% off hotel food & drinks from Friday to Sunday (although the food is pretty awful).

Saturday night is a bit more expensive, the rate we had seems to be every night except Sat.

Also, forgot to say we ate in Splash Landings one evening, had the pizza/pasta (in the small restaurant at the back near the bar) & a few drinks before driving back to our hotel - it was really nice, we got a meal deal on pizza - 2 pizza & 2 chips for £16.50.

Then on our last day in Alton Towers we got the "come back the next day" deal on the tickets to get us into the Water Park, it is great & the DC loved it!!!

We will go back without a doubt, would love to stay in Splash Landings Hotel but need to find a good deal to justify the cost because it is soooo expensive.

Nights in July just reduced - £99 for a room for 4 bed and breakfast at either Splashlandings or Alton Towers hotel. £184 including water park and theme park. Just booked mine!

We've just come back. We got ours for half price. Check out Ebay as people are selling discount codes and they work when typed into an internet booking.
The hotel os very basic, but so convenient for the Theme Park. Plus you get early ride time on both days which means you can razz it round all of the good rides before all the other visitors arrive.

Oh lee69, I never knew you could go to waterpark and not stay at the hotel. I've always fancied going to the waterpark, but been shocked by the hotel prices!

I might try and squeeze this into our itinerary at some point.

You re welcome roisin - we had a good time at Ilam. Yes, the water park is about £13 each for the day - you can just turn up and pay at the desk and stay all day!

But if going on a weekend or school holidays, get there early!
