Ideas for long weekend away (no kids!)

Me and DH have a pass out for 3 nights over b/h weekend to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary without the kids - yipee!

Looking for inspiration! We tend to like staying in towns rather than big cities, but not anywhere too remote - we like options to eat in the evening within walking distance.

We love walking and countryside, but gentle rather than hill or mountaineering!

Any ideas for areas/hotels?? We'd like to be within 3 hours drive of Warwick.

Places we've been before - Bath, Salisbury, Ludlow, Ross on Wye, New Forest - would be happy to go back there.

Thinking maybe South Downs, Suffolk, Kent, Somerset, Dorset. Would like decent hotel or reallu good b&b.

Any ideas gratefully received?

gorgeous hotel in same village where my inlaws live. In fact, we bought them roast sunday dinner for two there at xmas so they could do the gardening and pop up for their lunch! here

Forgot to say, it#s in between the lackdown and Quantock hills lovely gentle walking nearby. Taunton is only 5 mins by car from the hotel. Lots of lovely pubs/restaurants in and around Taunton to eat, as well as the hotel itself.

Rye in Sussex seems to have lots of nice gastropubs/cute B&Bs (the George is the most famous, but think there are plenty of others now), and is obviously by the seaside.

There are Hotel du Vin in Winchester and Henley -
probably lots going on on the river over the bank holiday too.

Would second 30andmerkins recs. DH and I had a weekend away in Cheltenham staying at the Hotel du Vin there, which was amazing. Did some walking around the Cotswold as well. Also, different end of the country, but Harrogate is lovely (and Hotel DV there is also great!). Lots of places to eat out and Yorkshire countryside for walking is 5 mins away.

Somewhere in the Peak District - Matlock or Buxton?

Ooh, yes. You must go to Bettys and have a Fat Rascal.

(Although the Betty's in Harrogate would have been better!)
