Luxury romantic hotel in the Lake District ?

DH & I have managed to persuade the in-laws to look after our DC for a weekend mid September so we can go away for a little holiday paid for with the contents our £2 claypot (about £600 & 3 years of collecting ). Any recommendations for somewhere romantic, luxurious with a really decent restaurant on site or very close-by and with a few pubs/walks on the doorstep.

The Samling is beautiful...midway between Windermere and Ambleside, on the edge of the lake. Fantastic food & beautiful rooms. Its quite small too so feels really personal & intimate. Can you tell I loved it!

The Samling is the only place that's been recommended IRL & looks perfect but sadly isn't available for the whole of September & October . Thank you for the other recs I'll pop and have a look now.

OK just looked and Holbeck Ghyll is too pricey - £596 for B&B in a bog standard double room and I'm hoping for something a bit less 'old school' than Sharrow Bay

I like the look of the drunken duck but that too is booked - is this normal for September in the Lake District?!! Still looking.......
