Break on my own with the children

I would like to go away for a few days with my children during half term my OH is not able to leave the business during that time so I have decided to go on my own and to be honest I am looking forward to the experience/challenge! Has anyone got any ideas about where to go? We live in the northwest and as its only for a few days don't want to be driving for hours. Would like self catering but something I can manage alone. I know alot of places have restrictions on pools etc. My children are 13, 8, 7 and 2. Any suggestions very welcome.

Assuming you have a car, how about Anglesey? I'm suggesting it because I live there!! Lots to do - especially for the under 10s. Great beaches, Snowdonia (inc. Snowdon) is only 30 mins away, near me here there is a farm park and the sea zoo, a National Trust property (thinking rainy days here). So it's fine if you like outdoorsy things.

I drove past here today on my way back from the beach. It's B&B though.
