Is it possible to find a holiday cottage with a budget of £400?

for 4 people. by the sea. devon / cornwall. last week of August?

I know of 1 (stayed there 4 years ago) a bit basic but fine. Everywhere else is about £600 which would be stretching the budget a bit.

anyone know of anywhere? - don't mind basic. don't need luxury. would like the sea down the road.

Not sure, the prices of these places tend to go sky high during the holidays. Have just checked out a place at cottgaes4you, who we use a lot and it's £449 to go first week in May, £657 to go May half term week and £800+ for last week of August - same cottage

west country v. expensive IMO - are you desperate to be there, or would you consider South Wales? It's not far, the beaches are better, and broadly you'll be sharing the same weather as north Devon.

Links to houses are needed I think!

£400 - very last week of Aug available (ie Sat 28th) - did you mean the 21st though?

Ponders · 05/04/2010 17:53

the Gower one is available on the 21st & is near the sea (& has 2 bedrooms too, the Cornwall one only has 1)

The whole of the holiday-rentals site only has 7 coastal properties in England under £450 the week of the 21st, & none are west country.

Ponders · 05/04/2010 18:08

aha, they don't all admit to being coastal!

Exmouth town house, £425 (on-street parking though)

Ponders · 05/04/2010 18:10

The Lizard in Cornwall, £440

Ponders · 05/04/2010 18:11

inland from Falmouth, £434

Ponders · 05/04/2010 18:14

Exmouth apartment £425 on-street parking again

They all look really nice. We have rented through holiday-rentals before, in Spain but from UK owners, & it's worked out fine

EggcentricaGallumbits · 05/04/2010 18:30

Ponders - they look good. thanks. (apart from the mumbles one - DH feels about mumbles the same as he feels about camping)

He has agreed to maybe tenby though. (takes alot to drag him across the border)
