I'll be there for over a week and I've two boys (3 and 6)

Been to Thomas Land before - anywhere else you'd suggest?

I'll have to keep a budget in mind so outings at a similar cost to Drayton Manor will have to be kept as a one off when I'm there.

Sealife Centre.
ThinkTank.
Twycross Zoo.
Dudley Zoo.
Hatton Farm.
West mids Safari park.

And RAF museum in Cosford is well worth the drive as it is amazing and free! My DS loves it there!

Theres also the Severn Valley railway at Kidderminster.

Oh and Ash End Childrens Farm near to Drayton Manor is really good and not as expensive as Hatton farm.

ThinkTank? I've not heard of this

I'm actually a Brummie, but it's been over a decade since I was there for this long a period and I didn't have kids then. So I feel like an outsider. The actually city centre seems unrecognisable from last time I was there!!!

I won't have a car (though might be able to make use of my parents from time to time)

Severn Valley sounds good - I've a train nut and the other is a dinosaur nut.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts, you can see them being made then eat them, and also next to that is the most amazing ice cream place

The ThinkTank is at Millenium point, just down the road from BullRing, right in the centre. It's a science museum with an IMAX cinema. My 3 year old DS loves it as there is a good large section for that age group and im betting your 6 year old would like it aswell. Ive had a quick look at the leaflet and there looks like theres lots of good stuff to do this year. Its all really good hands-on stuff.
You can get a double ticket into the thinktank and the imax. They'll be showing How to Train Your Dragon and Alice in Wonderland.
