Orkney with a 6yo and a 4yo - Good idea? and where to stay?

Has anyone been to Orkney with DCs as young as this? Thinking of going in July, want a cottage where the kids can play out and enjoy a wee bit of freedom. I've been on visitscotland but can't convince myself that any of the properties fit the bill.

Has anyone holidayed here and can recommend anywhere?

Been but cannot remember where we stayed but was very nice. Shouldn't be too difficult to get a cottage right on a beach which i guess would be fab for the kids. Loads to see unlike many scottish islands (which I do love, where you need an OS map to find things due to total lack of signage) well organised for tourists.

thanks all. I think I may have found a nice place for us, but still open to anyone's comments and suggestions
