due to dp being a lot bit of a twat our planned holiday to sweden is now off.

so, new plan is to see if my mum will come with me instead. Unfortunately she doesn't do camping, which we were going to do. so it's a hotel/cottage/b&b

looking for recommendations for somewhere nice, but not too expensive. I guess the original holiday would have set us back around £800 or so, so that's the approximate budget. a week or so, maybe 10 days?

any suggestions?

Have you a specific area on the south coast you are looking at?

We stayed at a place called Bears & Boxes which is in Cornwall (nearish to Bude, right on the coast). It's not super-swanky in terms of the rooms, although they are perfectly adequate, but the food is amazing and the couple who run it are lovely, plus it's really close to a number of nice places to visit on the Cornish coast. We stayed there as we were going to a wedding nearby, but we would return in a heartbeat just for the food. It's the best meal I've ever had, and we've eaten in some nice places in our time (it was better than Le Gavroche ). It wasn't licensed when we were there (few years ago now) but you could take your own wine and they would provide corkscrew & glasses. You do need to book an evening meal in advance to give the lady time to shop for ingredients.

They've got a website if you google the name. Every time you come into the house, they will bring you a tray of tea and home made cake, I can taste it now...
