Do you have a budget?

How central do you want to be? Right in the city centre or is a mile or two out of the centre an option?

special places to stay website has some good options - there are flats you can rent. the hotel du vin is ok but rooms can be small so you may end up paying lots for a family room

b and b might be best - same website is good and has a family friendly symbol

We've stayed at Hawkwell House in Iffley village a few times, although not with children (but they do have family rooms).

Its 2 miles from the city centre but a few mins walk from a very frequent bus service direct to the centre.

Its set in grounds so if the children need to let off some steam and have a run around outside they can.

We booked through laterooms.com and it was cheaper than the website price

Budget please, also what sort of hotel?

Central Oxford has loads of hotels but they are all pretty expensive. If you are willing to stay further out there are lots of cheaper more family oriented places you could stay at. Lots of good B&B's in Summertown which is lovely, and a 10 min ride into town.

budget, not insane (ie £250 + per night)

ideally somewhere with great breakfasts, some historical character, city centre ideally (we don't have a car - a car would be a nightmare in Oxford anyway)

super-ideal would be a room with adjoining sitting room so we can put DCs to bed and drink wine/read a book without disturbing them. this is no doubt the realm of "suites" and insane prices

thanks for the tips. normally I look on Alastair Sawdays but these seemed a bit high end. perhaps I should just give a buzz anyway.

When are you going? We use a weekly flat rental for visitors to Oxford at work. I'm not back in the office for a while though, but can look it up when I get back if that helps?

Lots of them have lovely character. It's better than self-catering (there are varying levels)

might be worth a look?

The Malmaison is in the old Oxford Prison (kids will love that) and very central. A cool boutique hotel that will put extra beds in the room for DCs.
