Widemouth Bay/Bude - Tips for places to go with 4 and 2 year olds please!

Evening Ladies,

We are setting off tomorrow for a week in what promises to be a blustering Bude .

Do anyone of you have local knowledge of the area? We will be two families - between us a 4 year old and two 2 year olds (and a very pregnant sister!).

We'll be staying right on the beach in Widemouth but given the weather might not hold out, what other fun stuff is there to do if we have to abandon our buckets and spades?

All tips and ideas very gratefully received - indoors or out it matters not.

DS really enjoyed the Big Sheep - lots to enjoy there both indoors and outside.

We went in Summer (ha !) with a 5 and 2 year old.

The Big Sheep was very good. We enjoyed a day trip down to Padstowe with a stop en route to look at Tintagel Castle (princess obsessed dsd !).

Sandymouth beach was great - lots of opportunities for rock pooling etc. We were there in rain coats and little beach tents to escape the showers (and wind) but still had a great time.

The food at Life's a Beach at Summerleaze beach was lovely

You should be - it pissed down every day we were there - but it really is a beautiful part of the country and we'll definitely go back

There are a couple of fantastic tea rooms nearby as well and the fish and chips at Rick Stein's chippy in Padstowe was worth the 15 minute queue.

Notice how food orientated my recommendations are ?

I think I can make an exception for Rick Stein's fish and chips though

DS really enjoyed parking at Rock, then getting the little foot ferry across to Padstow for fish and chips.

We particularly liked the scones from the little bakery in Bude opposite the fishmongers on the hill. Theres a cafe on that road that gets its fish from that fishmongers and it was really good too

Any one else want to throw me some benefit of experience?

There's something called the Milky Way too that's good for kids but can't remember what it is really as we didn't go there.

Boscastle and Port Isaac are pretty villages for a potter around.
