Hi - we are off for our hols to North Devon next week. Where are the best places to visit/days trips out with 3 young dcs, particularly if the weather turns nasty? Don't know the area very well, so any suggestions greatfully received! Many thanks, Techno.

We were in North Cornwall/Devon border a few weeks ago. The Big Sheep was definitely worth a trip. It was raining and we did need raincoats/wellies etc. but it was still enjoyable.

Thanks Tilly. Will put on To-Do list. Any other suggestions, anyone??

Sorry no boys have gone to Croyde which is a surfer beach. It rained almost all week last year. So DH & Ds (4 yrs) are down there now. To be fair we did go on a steam railway (can't remember name, very short line) and had a fab day at Ifrancombe emergency services day with coast guards police dogs etc which was very good look out for it.

We took the girls to Combe Martin dinosaur and wildlife park, www.dinosaur-park.com/, they had a brilliant day out, be warned though it is set on a hill! We also took them riding on Exmoor www.brendonvalley.co.uk/BrendonStables.htm which they really enjoyed (pony mad!).....

Will have a think for more!

We did hire bikes in Braunton DH carried Ds 1st year then a tag along. Went on the Tarka trail which is an old railway line with a fab tea room which used to be a railway station just after Barnstaple. Very very good day out even on a damp day. The steam railway was Lynton. very short but it was a very rainy day!

Thank you very much Starbear and MrsD -the Tarka trail sounds fab for a rainy day (I bet the weather will be crap next week!) and the dinosaur park is about 40 mins from where we are staying, so will definitely do that!

Maybe a bit too late for OP - but for anyone else who's planning a visit to North Devon........

Just returned today from Barnstaple with DS (4) and DD (22 months). Favourite day out was at Watermouth Castle. Great for little ones. Victorian museum, gnome land and lots of small rides, crazy golf, maze. A lovely setting and a really lovely day out. Also visited the Milkyway Theme Park - was an ok day out on a windy and wet day as most of it is indoors. Bit strange though! Woolacombe is nice, small seaside resort with a good beach, crazy golf, etc. Our favourite beach was Sanuton Sands, although Croyde worth a visit too. We seemed to do a lot of driving though! Sat Nav sent us on a lot of interesting routes!

I think there is a website called 101 things to do on a wet day in cornwall, or something similair.
