Sandy Beach and somewhere to stay near Eastbourne

Hi.
I need to go and visit Eastbourne and would like to combine it with a few days on the beach with the boys (4 and 2). I seem to remember that Eastbourne beach is pebbles - is there anywhere nice with a sandy beach that we could stay fairly cheaply.
