Does anyone know of a child friendly service station or place to stop on the way down to break up the journey?

Will be able to stop for about an hour (depending on traffic) so looking for somewhere to find food and play area or something.

oxford services are quite big ( am presuming m40/m42 rather than m1) have a playground and waterfalls and stuff.

don;t know m1 route sorry

You could stop off at Northampton, which is about halfway -- maybe Abington Park if the weather is nice or a soft play centre like Hullabaloo if it's miserable?
