Nice pubs / restaurants / caffs around St Ives / Hayle. And other things....

Are there any? We're camping a mile or two east of Hayle. No idea what it's like really.

Nice pubs being those with real ales and food, and restaurants being those with cheap but wholesome food.

And if you have any other general comments about places to go, that would be very marvellous.

Alba the fish restaurant on the harbour in St Ives, by the lifeboat station. Looks really posh and won loads of awards but food was fab and is really child friendly. Also cafe in Tate lovely and has amazing views.

I've also, separately been recommended Porthminster Cafe but it looks blommin expensive for a caff...

Porthminster Cafe is lovely. Lovely food, great view.

Not child friendly at night though. We took our 15 month old there a few years ago. She was asleep but woke up unsettled and we had to take it in turns to walk up and down the street outside with her while the other one ate.

They didn't turf us out - I just felt a bit unwelcome.

oh and DON'T take your car into St Ives. It's hell. You can't park.

Get the train!

We're going to Carbis Bay next week and will be taking the train every day!

I should have added that "The Mermaid" fish restaurant is lovely (I think it's even on fish street!) and that Pengelly's make the best pasties.

Trevaskis Farm, Gwinear Hayle is well worth a visit.Lovely home made desserts.

In Hayle... Pizza Patio quite nice, Grameen good indian restaurant/takeaway, The Water Mill at Lelant v nice, especially in nice weather as has large beer garden with swings and stream

St Ives, definitely don't drive in, you'll lose your mind. Take the park and ride from Lelant. I think most places are family friendly there so you'll be fine. On the way to St Ives, in Carbis Bay, there's a good fish and chip restaurant, whose name totally escapes me at the moment (even though I went there the other day ) It looks a bit retro but has a great reputation. On the right as you go towards St Ives.

If you want to go a bit further, can really really recommend The Gurnards Head. Fantastic food.

OK so the mermaid is fantastic (i am biased as got engaged there ) There is also another great fish place but can't remember the name will have a think.

The sloop is really nice right on the water and good food and outside siting.

The lifeboat is good and more pub grub than the sloop which is more gastro pub, plus there loads more room in there and a good choice for children.

Oh if your there for a sunday and want areally good carvery then you have to go to the shelf of wheat fantastic yummy home cooked sunday dinner.

There is a chinese at the bottom of the hill into st ives which is really nice and are happy to give forks and put rice and whatever iot one tub.

There is also another pub which does fab food (esp the crab soup) and I'll try and rememeber the name.....

I've not been for a couple of years, since I was pg with DD but am so looking forward t going in a few months time. You'll love it.
