Where's the nearest sandy beach to west London?

want to go tomorrow but think both brighton and eastbourne have pebbles? what about bournemouth? or the isle of wight?

or if you don't want to go so far, there's a place in farnham called Frensham Pond which is a pond with a sandy beach and lovely (and not nearly as far as the coast!)

Oooh good question! I'm looking for one to go to during the holidays. West Wittering has been recommended to me lots of times - it looks lovely.

If you don't mind me butting in slightly on your thread, Concordia, I'd like a sandy beach with a pier as well!
