Hopefully a day at Blackpool Sands if weather is nice.
A day/morning having a walk somewhere nice on Dartmoor, ideally where there will be ponies to see roaming about and a stream to paddle in (location sugestions welcome).

Go to sheepstor or cadover bridge....lovely and plenty of ponies..Tavistock is also very cute for small independent shops, nice river walk...

River dart is good, as well as the adventure park. Im sure you get free admission if you are staying there....maybe a trip into paignton after the zoo for fish and chips on the pier.

When are you going. I am in North Devon and it has been raining like a raining thing for many days now. If you are going down as far as Heligan what about considering the Eden Project instead if it is still this wet?
And don't forget your wellies.

If Paignton Zoo is a quite far for you (or you've been there before), there is always Dartmoor Zoo Park, which is near Ivybridge towards Plymouth.

It is smaller, but set in lovely woody surroundings. It's cheaper too.

Not for another 2 weeks so hoping it will have stopped raining by then.

I'm desperate to go to Heligan rather than Eden prject. Wanted to go for years. Will def bring wellies.

I've never been to Paignton Zoo before and I've heard it's very good. Don't think its too far from where we're staying. Will look online about Dartmoor Zo as well though.

We live near Dartmoor. Places we go:

in OK weather: there's a nice park in Bovey Tracey where children can paddle, and there's a little art gallery to wander round if it's wet.

Go up Hay Tor with small children, it's very easy but feels like a proper climb.

Castle Drogo has lots of holiday activities.

Fingle Bridge is another good place to picnic and paddle with small children and has a pub that does cream teas.

My children like Stover country park near Trago Mills. It's quite low key, has a poetry trail and a few woody sculptures and a lake and woods. Trago mills is shopping centre which is very popular, perhaps worth it if it's bad weather.

House of Marbles, near Bovey Tracey, is free and fun.

Newton Abbott has a little park called Decoy country park, behind Sainsburys, which has fountains you can play in.

I would second Becky Falls - great day (or maybe half-day) out, and also House of Marbles' restaurant does fab food.

Definitely Becky Falls. Shaldon has a nice (river) beach and the Ness zoo. In Torquy you can go to Kents Cavern caves and the model village at Babbacombe. There is just so much to do in that area with kids - this is just a few ideas.

My geography of Devon is not brilliant but if you're anywhere near Totnes the Dartington Cider Press centre is good - nothing to do with cider really but lots of nice little unusual shops in a nice setting including a good toy shop, kitchen shop with cafe etc
