What to do with a 18 mth old in the Llyn Peninsula...

We're there for a long weekend next week and worried ancase it rains. Was thinking of Portmeririon, but don't know of much else. Are the any play areas, parks?

Portmeirion is weird and I can't imagine an 18 month old would think much of it at all.

Go to the lovely Cadwaladr's Ice Cream parlour in Criccieth and you can all order the most fantastic ice cream sundae while looking out of the huge window across teh rainy sea.

A few years BAck we visited the Green Wood Centre near Caernarvon, I think. It was fabulous. Great fun for all ages.

Green wood centre is all outdoors so you might be a bit miserable if it's raining rods

I hope you get good weather. We went for a week to Nefyn two years ago and it was simply gorgeous. Lovely pub right on the beach for food too.

ours was actually dungarees (up to armpits) and a jacket but concept is sound

not cheap but very good

but in red to hand down, do not be tempted by pink

Portmerion is fine (we took a 15m old) if you want to see it yourself. For a toddler it is merely a nice walk.

On a steam train?

Swimming at the pool in Pwllheli (has a nice beach if it's not raining).

Beaches are good even in the rain. Porth Neigwl is lovely (and DD headed for the water when all but the most dedicated surfers avoided it), and there are pebbles to collect/sort/organise/throw etc...

There's a little petting farm near Criccieth (called the rabbit farm or something similar) which would be ok in the rain. Also steam trains as others mentioned. There's a short one that runs from Porthmadog which stops half way so that the kids can all get off and look at a railway museum and go on a miniature train ride. There's a swimming pool in Pwllheli I think. The slate mines are good for a rainy day although I don't think an 18 month old would get much out of it!

we've just got back from there with our 2 yo. Portmeirion was £7.50 per adult, which for just looking around a village was a mite steep IMO.

There's plenty of castles within a short drive (Criccieth, Caernarvon, Conwy etc), but we spent most of our time on the beaches. DD also enjoyed Foel Farm on Anglesea.

Portmeirion is a waste of time IMO, and still outdoors.
The Ffestiniog railway from Porthmadog is a good bet...if you get the ticket to Tan-y-bwlch there's a lovely walk through the woods which is pretty even in the rain.
There's a good aquarium somewhere nearby - might even be on Anglesea I can't quite remember.

We've had many holidays in the area, some glorious and some VERY wet. Good luck, I hope it stays dry for you.

Portmeririon really creeped me and dd2 out. We both had a desperate desire to run far away from the place. (That's just as an aside. I've never talked about it before)

No! I never watched The Prisoner so teh Prisoner themed gift shop was lost on me.

It was all just a big guddle.

Thanks for all you help! Still not sure what the weather is going to be like, after a week of hot sleepless nights I don't mind the idea of strolls along the beach in my water proofs! Will def be checking out the icecream palour!
