We are looking to go to Cornwall in July with dh and two kids aged 10 and 8 never been before. I would be grateful for any advice on the best areas to stay for things to do for the children. I have been looking up various self catering accommodation sites and most places I look at are fully booked for most of July and August, is this quite normal?. I take it Cornwall is very popular? We will be coming down from Scotland to visit so any ideas etc would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Many good places in Cornwall are booked more than one year in advance. We have tried booking places in October of the previous year and found very little available then. You need to give an indication of how much you would be prepared to pay for a week as prices can vary enormously and £1k + per week is fairly common for decent family sized cottages in school holidays.

agree with lilymaid, i have already booked ahead for july 2010, we're going to gwel an mor near portreath. Sleeps six and its just over £1k for the week, so I have a year to pay if off.

The Eden project is meant to be good, I think the north coast is better for beaches. St Ives is nice, and there is a lovely big beach not far away, i think it's Hayle Beach. I haven't done cornwall in years, but always have good memories of it whatever we've done.

scilly isles are fantastic. sennen cove. st mawes. polzeath. gwithian. camel bike trail. st ives. trebetherick. lizard. helford river. so many places. camping is great. cycling is not so great (too hilly!) sailing, surfing, swimming, walking. really depends on what you and your kids like doing. plenty of short courses for kids - sailing and surfing. good luck. i live here, so email write again and i'll try to help

Cornwall is very popular but also very lovely. What sort of place are you looking for? Do you mind basic? What about a caravan?

I've spent hours trawling the net looking for places to stay in Cornwall as I've been so much!!
