Longleat is a lovely day out, quite expensive though. There is a bit where you can drive thorough and the monkeys climb all over the car and pull it to bits Good fun if slightly worrying!

Havent been to the rest, sorry

compo · 29/04/2009 21:02

I like Longleat
has big safari type thing you drive through and monkeys eat your wipers
dont go in August, it's like a traffic jam inching through the safari bit

Phoenix4725 · 29/04/2009 21:21

ah fotgot tosay be going in june

....all are expensive, only Cheddar gorge is not worth it, though.

Longleat is the most expensive, and the most fun. I have taken the four urchins a couple of times, and found myself relieved of something in the region of 80 quid at the gate.

But that said I have also spent whole days there, eventually dragging tired happy urchins away as the operatives sweep up and close....

The entrance money covers all the attractions, and there are plenty, so it is perfectly possible to take a picnic and not spend additional cash.

The monkey enclosure is closed for the foreseeable. One of them has herpes apparently..

...the zoo I like, apart from the ritual fleecing at the end, as it is impossible to leave without going through the shop...

we went to longleat last year courtesy of Tesco clubcard vouchers!

there is loads to do and a great day out.

I also liked Cheddar gorge if you like caves , which were more interesting than i anticipated, eand a couple of the walks.

QOD · 29/04/2009 21:44

£6.50 in tesco vouchers for longleat! we are going there in august, staying in the caravan club site!
i loved cheddar gorge, had 2 8 yr olds and we had great fun!

Bristol Zoo is brilliant and well worth a visit. They've also just opened a fantastic water play area.

Hi Phoenix - don't suppose you have a mebership to Colchester zoo? Because if you do, they have a reciprocal agreement with Bristol zoo to give their members free entry. We have Bristol zoo membership and used it to have a fab day out at Colchester Zoo.

missblythe · 02/05/2009 20:15

There's loads to do at Longleat, probably more than one day's worth of outings.

When you buy your ticket they give you a kind of passport thing, which they stamp at the diff attractions, and you can go back on another day and do the things you have missed without paying again.

Phoenix4725 · 09/05/2009 18:55

yep we do Laundryfairy on our 6th year now dcove it so thinkthat be one todefintley do

oh soundsgood missblythe

thanks

I know you have a pass but if anyone else from SN is reaidng this, Bristol Zoo does decent DLA- related disocunts, you know; we got in as a family fotr £19- the assistant saw the different forms and calculated the best deal for us.

I like Cheddar but it's a walk, ice cream sorta thing. We normally stay very close byu though, first Whitsun half term in years that we have not in fact.

Glastonbury is nice, Abbey etc. And Wells. Brean beach decent for a let your kids go wild thing, also can recommend Animal farm at Brean, I think your ds would love it Phoenix, we ahd ds1's party there recently

OOD si that the caravan and camping or just caravan site? I;ve been to the C&C site, lovely though if its windy take delta pegs as it gets blowy up so high. I tried to revise forn Uni exams up there 2 yeras ago, ended up sopending most of the time chasing paper instead LOL

MrsMcCluskey · 09/05/2009 19:06

Longleat is overpriced and too busy for my liking.
Bristol zoo is very small, can be done in a few hours, but the bat house is really good, esp for the older ones ( or is that Chester zoo?)
Cheddar gorge is good as is Wookey Hole.
( Hi Peachy!)

Longleat good as you can "pay as you go" for attractions-you don't have to see them all if you don't want to. Bristol Zoo good but expensive. Can't comment on Cheddar i'm afraid!

retiredgoth2 · 13/05/2009 14:58

Longleat is best on quiet days, so a school day might be ideal.

....I normally take the urchins on days when it is grey and drizzly. The weather doesn't matter much, but it keeps a lot of people away.

Ditto Bristol Zoo.

...another way to make the zoo more manageable is to do it the 'wrong way round'. The majority of exhibits are arranged in a ring, and visitors tend to move clock wise through them.

...we always go anti-clockwise, and it always seems much quieter, even on busy days...

Phoenix4725 · 13/05/2009 19:30

yeah we employ same tatic at ourlocalzoothough think ds could find way round blindfolded

Sazzerbear

luckily bristol zoo we can use our local zooentrance cardsforsothat be a cheapday out long as hustledcpass ice cream places

MrsMcCluskey · 13/05/2009 23:13

if you are in the area of bristol zoo
try Noahs ark farm ?

Meglet · 13/05/2009 23:23

I thought wookey hole was better than cheddar. Cheddar just seemed to be lots of caves you can pop in and out of, but wookey is spooky as you walk through the whole thing, scared the willies out of me. (But I haven't been to either in 15 years so they might be different now).

Longleat is a good day out, expensive but lots to do. Watch out if you go on a summer holiday weekend, it can be almost grid locked in the safari part.
