We want to go anywhere between Sheffield and Matlock for 3 nights at the beginning of half term. 2 adults 2 children and an infant. Do you know anywhere or can you recommend a good company? TIA

Have you thought about looking around Ashbourne, a little bit further but more choice and not quite so mad/touristy. Try googling Ashbourne self catering. If you find something I'd be happy to let you know what it's like if it's one I'm aware of.

Oh thanks I will do that.

Have a look on this list of accommodation on farms

I also believe that Darwin Forest Park and Sandybbrook Pine lodges are pretty good if you fancy either of those.

this cottage belongs to a mnetter (IIRC)

We wanted to go there, but never got around to it.

these are nice - and there are more on that website. you'll find loads more googling. I'm local to the area so could tell you more about locations if you find something you fancy.

Do you have any specific requirements to help narrow down your search?

hatwoman · 28/04/2009 19:52

is there anything in particular that you're after? in terms of location - eg proximity to anything in particular? do you want stuff to keep the kids entertained or are you happy with lovely views? do you want to be walking distance to shops or will you get in the car to shop or just bring it all with you?

hatwoman · 28/04/2009 19:52

cross posted!

jenthehen · 28/04/2009 19:54

Great minds and all that!

We are going there to visit friends in matlock and sheffield, thats our main point of the stay. Not bothered about being near shops will bring stuff with us or can pick bits up while we are out and about.

well if you want pretty market town on the river you could go for Bakewell. On a Monday in half-term it will be rammed though - as it's market day. Baslow, Curbar, Calver, Froggatt, are quiet villages close to Chatsworth - which has a good farmyard and adventure playground. Hathersage is closer to Sheffield than to Matlock - it's a larger village with some nice cafes. does tend to get quite busy in the holidays.

hatwoman · 28/04/2009 22:14

you can search by village here

jenthehen · 30/04/2009 19:08

Did you find anything?

McDreamy · 04/05/2009 11:52

Er.....still looking . Had a very busy weekend and have been a bit distracted!!!
