Dublin or Edinburgh for a child free weekend?

Its my 30th in september and my mum has kindly offered to have the kids for a weekend so my and dh can go away.
I dont really want to go too far or spend TOO much money! So was considering either Dublin or Edinburgh as never been to either.

Would appreciate any ideas / opinions on where to stay/ what to do and see...

never been to dublin but i have been to edinburgh and going back in a couple of weeks. i loved it. there is plenty to - shopping, museums, theatre, pubs, restaurants, underground tour of the old city, castle, there is so much to see - we didnt even see half of it first time round. We go on the train as the train station is right in the centre of the city. You can get a hotel or B and B for around £100 per night for a room for two. we are staying in a jury's inn this time. there are hundreds of b and b's and hotels, but some are really pricey! would recommend edinburgh to anyone!

Live in Edinburgh so I have to say I love it. However, have been to Dublin a few times and it was great too.

Very difficult choice IMO.

Got to be Edinburgh!
Lived there for 10 years and the town is so beautiful I still get blown away everytime I look up at the castle. Amazing architecture, with the old town around the castle and then the wide spacious streets of the new town on the hillside opposite. Loads to do and in a very walkable city. Only problem is that its a bit posh! (not sure thats a prob on hols...).

There is an Hotel Ibis in Hunter Square which is on the Royal Mile so V central.
These are in the new town

Having lived in Edinburgh for 3 years, and having been to Dublin several times to visit family I would vote for Edinburgh.

Edinburgh has a more laid back relaxed feel, yet loads to see and do!! Dublin is a very busy city, but also loads to see and do.

Just loved living in Edinburgh. Enjoy wherever you choose.

edinburgh will be cheaper and more relaxed.

Ok, I am swaying towards Edinburgh now- have looked at the Ibis website it looks really nice and under £250 for the 3 nights B&B.

No- I hadn't considered Glasgow! Should I?
