V posh, and v expensive!!!

squeaver · 27/01/2009 21:39

Central London? trendy or traditional?

The Grove is very nice.

compo · 27/01/2009 21:55

aha, replies!! thnaks, ideally central london
willing to pay a bit, not loads

OP posts:
compo · 27/01/2009 21:57

where is the Grove?

OP posts:
squeaver · 27/01/2009 22:07

Grove is hertfordshire.

You probably will have to pay loads in central London unfortunately (although maybe you'll get deals on laterooms.com and with the pound being so weak they might be short of Americans at the mo).

Anyhoo...

Soho Hotel/Covent Garden Hotel/Charlotte Street Hotel - all the same group. Not too big, quite slebby.

The Halkin - minimalist white, not exactly central

Metropolitan - Park Lane, v trendy

St Martins lane - v trendy.

Gordon Ramsay's just opened a restaurant called the York & Albany in Camden. I hear it has a few very nice rooms

compo · 27/01/2009 22:15

thanks what about traditional

OP posts:
squeaver · 27/01/2009 22:19

erm

Browns?

The Connaught?

tbh, Covent Garden and Charlotte St are modern but quite traditionally furnished. The adjective would be "comfortable" I think.

squeaver · 27/01/2009 22:19

And Claridges.

mynaughtylittlesister · 27/01/2009 22:22

Not expensive but nice rooms!

De Vere are doing special offers at the moment - rooms from just £10

DH and I had a couple of nights away just after the New Year. We were not actually in the main hotel, but the room was lovely and clean and freshly painted. It had tea/coffee facilty and an iron. TV, en suite etc

2 nights for £20 not bad!

They have De Vere all over so worth a check.

Just remember you get what you pay for thou, we didn't mind as we had checked the web site before and expected to be in the annexe. It didn't spoil our nights away, we just enjoyed getting a bargain!

mynaughtylittlesister · 27/01/2009 22:22

Sorry, just re read your Op - please ignore my post!

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:30

my friend got a room for £150 at no 1 Aldwych last week, she says it was lovely.

stinkymonkey · 27/01/2009 22:33

V central in London & lovely is The Marriott at County Hall - right next to Big Ben, London Eye & South Bank. Lovely historic building (used to be GLC HQ), fairly big pool. Nice gym where you can wave at the people on the London Eye whilst you plod on the treadmill. White towelling bathrobes, posh toiletries. Can you tell I want to go back?

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:40

been for drinks here when it first opened, they let us look around and it was fab, they have an indoor pool. very central.haymarket

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:41

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:44

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:48

isitreallythattime · 28/01/2009 20:58
