What to do in the Swindon area?

Hi,

I have booked a night away as a surprise for DH as to be honest we just need some time on our own away from our 3 dc's.

We are staying at the De Vere in Swindon because there was an offer on and it looked really nice.( also about an hour from home so not too far to travel)

I was wondering what there was to do around the area and if anyone could recommend somewhere resonable to eat on that Friday night.

Thanks

Bumping for you.

Swindon town presents something of a challenge as far as sight-seeing is concerned. Perhaps drive out to Cirencester or Burford (Cotswold towns). Or wander along the THames at Lechlade. Or up on the Ridgeway near Uffington and Waylands Smith. These are all 20-40 minutes away.

On the other hand, if you're into retail, there's the designer outlet centre, just outside the town centre. You can pick up good stuff here (a few weeks ago I bought a Jaegar dress reduced from £279 to £65). If you're into trains and/or history(well, some people are) the Steam museum is very good. I'm not into trains but I like it.

Failing that, there's ten-pin bowing and cinemas, etc.

Can't help with eating out as we tend to eat nearer our own village, which is about 14 miles out of town.

town centre is mostly pubs, some italian/chinese/indian
the old town has chinese, indian, thai, italian plus pubs that do food

Outlet village sounds good.

Any good places to eat?

well, there are just fast food type places in the outlet village and it shuts when the shops shut. one pub opposite, and chinese and indians down the road .

Thanks. Meant to eat in swindon itself.

ROFL that someone has booked a weekend away in Swindon.

You can visit my sister -she's quite entertaining and wouldn probably do a Morris dance for you.

Avebury is a beautiful and interesting place and not too far from Swindon HERE
