Can anyone recommend a hotel in Newport, Wales please?

As one of DP's surprise 40th birthday presents I've booked tickets to see Elbow -the only place they were playing (within a reasonable distance) that had tickets left was Newport.

Nothing too expensive though (as for his actual birthday we are going to a really nice hotel for a couple of nights).

Have Googled but don't like the look of some places. I'm wondering if we're better off just booking the Holiday Inn Express which is out of town so will involve taxis etc but at least you know what you're getting?

Any ideas? Thanks

Bumping for you.

I don't think there is anywhere reasonable to stay in the centre of Newport at the moment. As well as the Holiday Inn Express Innthere is a new ETAP hotel on junction 26 of the motorway (don't know what its like but nearer to the centre than the Hoiday Inn Express). Hope you have a good time.

We stayed at the Newport Hilton (using Tesco vouchers!) - was very nice (even with the DC)

It is directly off the M4, just out of town.

Thanks folks -i just came back to bump this as there were no replies a little while ago.

I've just discovered that theres a central Travelodge opening near(ish) to the venue but it doesn't actually open until the day of the gig so that might be taking a bit of a chance

Will look into the ETAP one and using Tesco vouchers which I hadn't thought of

The ETAP one is a bit odd -website doesn't give much away but it looks very....er....basic.

Never heard of them before.
