We're off there next week, just wondering if there's anything nice to do with a 2yo if we fancy getting out of the compound for an afternoon (or do they have snipers posted on guard towers to stop you leaving?).

When you arrive you will be 'chipped'. On the chip will be your leaving day - either a Monday or Friday. If you try to leave before then you will be arrested and escorted back. The only exception to this is if you have maxxed out your credit cards.

Trust me, it's not worth the hassle. Just relax and try to enjoy yourself on site. Within no time you will be back in the free world.

Obviously meant to add a there. We have never left the environs, not least because it's so f*ing expensive we always want to get our money's worth!

So, sorry, can't help you with any suggestions.

Thetford Forest is absolutely wonderful to wander around and has a nice visitor's centre - we regularly visit. There is also a tank museum close by - it was marked on our AA map but we didn't visit, so can't vouch for it.

Echo hamster - we went at christmas and it was so bloody expensive we didn't leave.

I used to pretend I was raised by wild wolves in Thetford Forest

you could go on a Big Cat Safari looking for evidence of the Fen Tiger?

We got a discount deal and aren't booking any activities so will probably be kicked offsite for not spending enough money!

Tank museum sounds exciting...

Visitors centre at Thetford Forest. If you've ever been to a North American State park, it's a bit like that (except no bears and probably raining). Money wise you have to pay £5 to park. You can hire bikes (with trailers for LO) and there is a really nice adventure playground with a big squirrel to climb on, wooden airplane etc all dotted around the forest to be discovered. Plus a nice cafe. (Go Ape is also there if you can find someone to hold the baby!)

Banham Zoo isn't too far either. Lots of good animals.

Also if you like nice cafes and 'lifestyle shopping' there are the Elveden Stores which do really nice 'local produce' lunches, (and nice hot choc) sells homemadefoods/handcrafted homewares etc in quite a nice setting. Would be good for a quick escape. It is in Elveden. (Signposted off the A11. Can't miss it).

God sorry, overdoing it with the 'nices' there! Meant to say Elveden is on A11 and there is a sign for the stores as you go through.
