Why is a "family room" only for four? What happens when you have a dh andTHREE kids?

I'll tell you what happens... you have to take two rooms....and that third child (poor traumatised thing) doubles the bloody cost.

This is why we bought a big tent and go camping. Family of 5 = paying double all round. Annoying I agree.

am wondering whether to smuggle one of the dc's in...tis only for 3 nights in a London hotel.

Well my thoughts exactly Ruby!I am not a natural camper by a LONG shot.

But the children love it and it gives us holidays and we wouldn't have many otherwise. This way we can and it's not too bad if I'm honest and drink enough wine to numb the pain

But where would they stop - room for 5? 6? 7? etc.

I only have the one child so I guess I am having to pay for an extra bed we won't use in some hotels.

If looking at a big city - try looking at renting a city apartment instead. You have a bit more flexibility in terms of how you fit everyone in.

...on one occasion I booked two rooms, then crammed us all into one and used the other for luggage.

it's the same with minicabs ...you can't get one when there's five of you...you have to request a blinking minibus.

Really?! My cousins were given a camp bed in the room to accomodate the third child, they paid about a £20 deposit for it IIRC. Sounds like they were lucky!

Honestly though do young children and hotels really make good partners?

I think of all the peace and quiet and nice chairs and restaurants and bars and lounges in hotels; those are the things I like but three dc would feel quite hemmed in by all the formality of it, I suspect.

RubyRjoca - sometimes we have dicovered that it would cost us absolutely no mor emore to take along another child. Now DD and her friends are a bit older I can see us having an extra child on holiday and on day trips with us more and more.

Go to Ireland. A family pass on the train is for 2 adults and 4 children!

We have won family tickets for things before and had to find an extra child to go along with us.
