Tesco vouchers - who's used them to stay in a nice family hotel?

We want a weekend break, have got loads of vouchers. Any recommendations? Would need to have a pool and lots to do nearby.

I have

We recently went to the Newport Hilton - had a pool, quite child-friendly. We had a double double room with 2 DC (cosy but not cramped!). The food was buffet-style breakfast and carvery/buffet dinner, so plenty to choose from. Just off M4 before Cardiff.

We went to (forgotten the name!) - hands-on science place in Cardiff (using Tesco vouchers!) and the Big Pit (north of Newport) - free!!! Both were absolutely fabulous.

There were lots of other options to do nearby too.

I stayed in a Marriot in Glasgow, not with the kids, but they do do a room with two doubles. But I would say they are more suited to a couples getaway, but it really depends on what you need for your kids. Certainly plenty to do in Glasgow for kids.

I've tried to stay in hotels using tesco vouchers, but by the time I get my vouchers all the rooms seem to have gone. I always end up having to send the vouchers back for a refund.

I was lucky and got a weekend between Christmas and New Year, great antidot to missing the kids as they were at their Dads.

how do you go about booking a room? do you need to get the vouchers first?

themoon66 · 19/01/2009 22:23

From what I remember, you have to have the codes which are printed on the vouchers when you ring up the booking line.

There is the Museum of Transport, the Kelvingrove, the Scotland Street School Museum etc (all free).

There is also a great Science centre, a day is never enough for my two there.

Loads of family freindly places to eat our favourites are China Buffet King and O Sole Mio.

LOts of Parkland within the city.

The Underground (the Clockwork Orange) is great for getting around.

Xscape if your are feeling a bit more adventurous (and rich).

The Tall Ship if you need a bit of history]]

Should I go on ...
