with things to do for 2 x 7yo, 5yo, 2 x 3yo (and their mum's!), and what would those things be?
Basically B'ham & eat, up a bit and down quite a way.
Not london.

Thanks

Bumping for you.

Peak districk, Matlock sort of area?

Went there couple of years ago with 3,7,9 had a good you've got Gullivers Kingdon, Heights of Abraham, farm parks, steam train enough to keep us busy for a week, more than enough for a few days and close enough to Cambridge (wouldn't go via Birmingham though).

Northernlurker · 09/01/2009 16:37

So you have to go via Brum?

York is about 3 hours away. There's the railway museum, Castle museum, Jorvik, the minster, the walls, boat ride on the river, model railway. Loads of shops, restaurants and places to stay. If you have a car there are other things round and about including Scarborough and the steam railway at pickering but the real beauty of York is that you can easily do it by train - train to Peterborough then straight up the main line.

Sorry - that should be 'do' not 'so' in the first sentance!

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 16:41

Norwich?

ChasingSquirrels · 09/01/2009 17:32

thanks, sorry wasn't via B'ham, should have been B'ham and east (ie not much further west than B'ham).
Am looking at a couple of nights in a £9 travelodge and having days out.
I had thought York but more expensive and trying to keep it really cheap, might do York on my own with my two, or get my mum to come with us.
I#ll have a look at Matlock.
Thanks again.

Norwich and area is more day trip, and I used to live there - think I would find it quite hard to go back at the moment (it's where I went to uni, met x, lived with him for years etc, and it is all still quite raw).

have you tried posting on the Cambridge page to get local opinions?

ChasingSquirrels · 09/01/2009 18:20

I live in Cambridge, am looking to go away within about a 3hr drive.
Don't think than the local camb site would be the right place.
Anyway, Matlock area looks good.

No - its the mumsnet page for Cambridge - I meant just to bring it to the attention of other Cambridge mums to see where they would go.

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 18:24

How about youth hostelling? We stayed in the one in the National Forest in Derbyshire. It took about 4hrs from Norwich so would be less for you from Cambridge

ChasingSquirrels · 09/01/2009 18:24

right, I see what you mean (I knew it was the local page).

just got quite excited about YH Fimbo, but works out quite a bit more, and friend is on a tight budget so want to get it as cheap as I can.
