Romantic/relaxing weekend away within hour of Manchester?

Am looking to book something for our 10th anniversary but as it falls on May bank holiday weekend thought I should start looking now as things will book up and probably be a bit more expensive. We will only really be going lunchtime to lunchtime leaving DD with Nana so dont want to travel too far but also will be 8 months pregnant so another reason for not being too far from home. So have set rough limit of 1 hour from south Manchester which is actually quite a large area including Peaks, Dales, Cheshire, North Wales and even lower lakes. We just want something relaxing & romantic. Good grub, good views. Nothing majorly swish or posh and also not too pricey. Any ideas?

this hotel has been doing a lot of advertising ans special offers recently and they have just done it up.
Prestatyn North Wales. Right on the beach.
Have never stayed there myself as don't live that far away!

hoping to help

If I could afford it and they had a room, I would stay at the new Urban Splash converted Midland Hotel in Morecambe. This may not fit your price range though.

We liked Biggin Hall, south of Buxton.

They have geese on the lawn! (I'm easily pleased).

Hilton hotels have 50% off at the mo - have you tried them?

Mollington Banastre or Manor chesterhotels.laterooms.com/en/p4112/wl/hotel-reservations/4061_crabwall-manor-hotel-chester. aspx near Chester? Haven't stayed there myself recently, but went to functions at both some years ago. Hopefully someone else will know whether they are still any good?
Or Etrop Grange near Manchester Airport? Ditto re not having recent experience.

Pushing the 1 hour limit slightly but I love it here. We went when I was 7 months pg and it was glorious and not too pricey either

Quebecs in Leeds. Is that an hour on the train? What a hotel.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Keep them coming. Good (tho not necessarily posh) food in hotel or nearby is a priority. Massage or spa treatments would be a bonus.

I was meaning 1 hour by car rather than train.

Does it have to be out of Manchester? Malmaison has lots of good offers at the mo, and my favourite place EVER the Lowry hotel is horribly expensive but doubtless they're being credit crunched like everyone.

Mal offers small amount of treatments but Lowry has a wonderful spa though no pool.
