I need a recommendation for really really reliable minicab firm operating out of Heathrow. They absolutely have to turn up on time and not give my mother (who they will be picking up) any reason to complain about the service, and believe me she?ll find a reason as she's cut short her holiday and is going to be mightily annoyed. She's on a plane as we speak...

Have you tried Greater London Cars? Don't operate out of Heathrow but do a lot of pick ups there. Usually nice cars and drivers..

Where is she travelling back to?

DadInsteadofMum · 16/12/2008 01:25

You are generally better off booking a local taxi from final destination to go and pick her up and bring her back, will almost certainly work out cheaper than hiring a taxi around Heathrow.

If you book an airport transfer company they normally work out cheaper than hiring a taxi at Heathrow too, though (then again, buying a solid gold pogo stick encrusted with diamonds and using it to pogo home would work out cheaper than hiring a taxi at Heathrow).

Can't remember who I've used in the past, unfortunately.

Addison Lee. Really reliable. Good cars.

snickersnack · 16/12/2008 08:04

Thanks! I went with Premier Airport Cars in the end on a friend's recommendation - Addison Lee was going to be my second choice. Agree that local to my parents' would have been cheaper but couldn't risk them being stuck in traffic...they HAVE to be there on time, or my life won't be worth living!

Your mother sounds a bit high maintenance. Why would it be your fault if the taxi was late?

snickersnack · 16/12/2008 17:00

She's not well, hence the coming home early. I nagged and bullied her into agreeing to take a taxi - she was going get two tubes, a train and a bus with suspected malaria and a broken arm and a big suitcase. She's slightly crazy like that. After a big "don't be so bloody stupid" row over the phone from Indonesia, she agreed to get a taxi and I said I'd organise. So I just didn't fancy the "I told you I should have suffered on public transport" argument if the taxi was late.

She's actually very sweet. Just a bit cautious about spending money on things she considers unnecessary.

Oh, fair enough.

Are there good treatment centres for malaria here?
