For a girls' weekend - not too pricey?!

TIA

Try Superbreaks - the theatre /shortbreak people. I think we stayed in the novotel near kings cross for a weekend last Jan which was OK but a browse over their website would give you some options?

Word · 12/11/2008 21:30

Thanks. Not tried them before - will look now.

There's a Holiday Inn which is okay; I stayed there a couple of times for work. The main restaurant is pretty grim but there is a decent, if a bit pricey, Indian restaurant on site - and a pool. If you want mega-cheap, there is a Travelodge - sometimes they do rooms ridiculously cheaply, like £20 a night but obviously it is totally no-frills - and no breakfast.

i have no idea if there is one near kings cross, but hilton are doing £55 a night for their london hotels atm. www.hilton.com

Shame - £55 offer not available! Thanks anyway. There are 5 of us too, which makes it a bit harder.

Right, off to look at Holiday Inn ....

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury 5mins walk from Kings X is a good choice

The Travelodge in Cov Gdn is fabulous. There's also one right by Kings Cross but it's not as nice as the Cov Gdn one (which is quieter). Look at both though because if it doesn't really matter about the noise, then the Kings Cross one will do you fine!

foxinsocks · 15/11/2008 21:16

actually, thinking about it, that other travelodge isn't by Kings Cross, it's by Euston! Not too far though.

Premier Travel Inn, Kings Cross. Supposed to be nice. Around £95 a room which is good for London.

I've heard the travel lodge is noisy. Might not be a problem for a girls weekend though.

foxinsocks · 15/11/2008 21:32

ha! Mrs Pickles, I thought it was there. Just doubted myself for a minute ;-). It's the Euston one that I think CAN be a bit noisy (noise from outside) but tbh, most hotels in London are going to be a bit like that.

I am a new found travelodge fan.

janeite · 15/11/2008 21:37

The Travelodge in Kings Cross isn't noisy but the rooms are very small (smaller than normal travelodge rooms iirc) and very, very hot.

jury's inn just up from king's x towards angel - then you are near islington & upper street too

branflake81 · 18/11/2008 14:54

We stayed in the Albion House Hotel which was very basic but clean and adequate to our needs. Think a double was around £70 a night (for the room, not per person).

weblette · 18/11/2008 14:57

Another vote for the Jury's Inn. Cheap but v clean and well-equipped, nice lounge - we used it for a girly weekend too.

Word · 19/11/2008 21:54

Thank you. The search goes on.... triple rooms are a bit trickier!

not sure about hotels but there is a fantastic, quirky little pub a couple of minutes walk away. come out of KX station, turn left, then left again and 100 yards down on the rhs is this funny little place...called 'the lounge', or 'the something lounge'

has books, bizarre entertainment, odd regulars etc. sorry can't be more precise with the name, but it is so well worth looking out for!
