We often travel up and down to my parents on the A1 but need a stop off point to eat and give the kids a break - so preferably with some kids activities - either a pub/restaurant with play area or somewhere with swings and slides nearby

don't mind travelling a couple of miles off the A1 to get to a decent place - any suggestions please?

do you know the A52? Its a bit further out than Newark, but in Gamston there is a lovely pub which has an outdoor play area and an indoor area as well, with those jungle gym thingies. Its call The Goose at Gamston

Have you thought of going to Belton House just outside Grantham? Restricted hours in winter when the main house isn't open but it has restaurant facilities suitable for children and a large children's play area plus the gardens.

Newark - Roman Way or the Lord Ted
Belton House is Grantham but Fantasic - excellent outdooe aventure play area with little train and great restuarant - healthy, lunch boxes for around £3
