For East Coast Mainline trains? Either Berwick on Tweed or Edinburgh.

expatinscotland · 21/10/2008 17:34

Dunbar?

N. Berwick?

DrNortherner · 21/10/2008 17:39

Oh I ws hoping it wouldn't be Edinburgh or Berwick.

Dunbar might be physically closer but it will be a longer drive than Edinburgh. It is only 30 minutes from the outskirts of Edinburgh to Gala.

expatinscotland · 21/10/2008 17:47

but it could take ages to get to the outskirts of Edinburgh depending on where you start.

and if the OP is using trains then she might not have a car.

you can get a coach from Edin to Gala from the bus station at St. Andrew's Square pretty easily, too.

DrNortherner · 21/10/2008 17:48

Do have a car but was hoping not to drive. Have to go to gala for work, if on train line I would train it.....

Buggar. It will be a long drive from Yorkshire....

no train station there.

used to be one, but they took it out.

I just checked Google Earth.

Edinburgh is slightly closer than Berwick (about 12 minutes); Dunbar takes a bit longer (another 10 minutes).

If you are coming by train from England, it takes close to an hour to travel from Berwick to Edinburgh, so overall the journey will be quicker via Berwick.

I don't think she said Biggar
