Hi

Spending a weekend in London in November, staying in the Tower Bridge area, can any-one recommend a good restaurant for dinner in that area? We like all types of food.

Butlers Wharf has almost everything you could want, in descending order of poshness:

Le Pont de la Tour
Butler's Wharf Chop House
Cantina del Ponte
Bengal Clipper
Captain Tony's Pizza & Pasta Emporium (!)
Pizza Express

Oh, forgot recommendations .

Pont de la Tour - good
Chop House excellent
Haven't tried the Cantina
If you want a curry, Brick Lane is only a half hour walk/5 minute taxi ride so give the Bengal Clipper a miss
Haven't tried Captain Tony's
I probably eat at Pizza Express a dozen times a year, if you do too you might want something different!

Personally I thought Pont was over-rated but like the Chop House and Cantina. There's a lovely restaurant called Brindisa at London Bridge which isn't far away and a great place called Baltic in Southwark. Skylon at the Festival Hall and Roast in Borough Market are also supposed to be quite good.

Graham Norton's fave restaurant is just over the river in Wapping - an Italian called Il Bordello on Wapping High Street. It's nice and always has a great atmosphere. There's also a wonderful Pakistani restaurant on Fieldgate Street over the river called New Tayabs - very good value and recommended. In Clerkenwell there's Moro, Quality Chop House, The Eagle and The Bleeding Heart (one of my faves).

In fact there's lots and lots of stuff for you to try out. Worth looking at the Time Out and This is London websites for recommendations.

Magdalen is superb, and well-priced given the quality.

If you like Indian - there is also Cafe Spice Namaste down Prescott St. It's not your normal curry house cuisine, it's quite upmarket and the food is lovely.

Another good website for restaurant reviews is london-eating.co.uk
