Harrogate and recs for self-catering in yorkshire please

hi, we're planning a holiday in yorkshire in half term and wanted to know if harrogate would be a good base - is there much to do? its just me DH and 2 month old DS so we're not expecting to do much but nice shops and cafes etc wud be good.

also any recommendations for self catering? somewhere pref contemporary and easy on the eye

Ooo I live in harrogate.

Can't recommend anywhere to stay as obv have never done it. It's a nice town, good for shopping etc and some nice surrounding countryside but it's still a bit of a drive to the Dales if you have young kids (good hour or so). There's some nice national trust places (Fountains Abbey, Brimham rocks) which are nice.
