Place to stay in or near Paignton, Devon

We are going to a wedding in Paignton (Devon) and need somewhere to stay with our two young kids. Has anyone stayed in Paignton or nearby and could recommend? We have google searched and found a few places but DH thinks that most of them look like somewhere that would feature on the Hotel Inspector so he wants me to find somewhere that someone recommends. Unfortunately people that are getting married there don't know the area well enough to recommend hotels.

Don't know if it's near Paignton but Radletts Hotel is in Devon and will only take people with children.

I went to a wedding near Paignton once (reception was at the zoo). To be honest, I thought Paignton was awful. There must be better places to stay in that part of Devon.

Paignton is where Fawlty Towers was set. Its not known for nice hotels. Do you want somewhere that is OKish and in Paignton or somewhere very nice but a drive away (and if so how far are you willing to drive?). What price range?

acutally it turns out Fawlty Towers is in Torquay (v close) and is now a boutique hotel!
