...Preferably in the South of England but anywhere would be good. We're planning a few days away this Autumn with our 8mo, & would like to be able to get the train (&, maybe, a taxi) from London. Any ideas would be great!

South West Trains do a early booking ticket to Bournemouth from London for £9

oooh thanks ten10! Just looking at the WCC website now - quite inspiring although a lot of them seem to be miles away from any train station. Will have fun looking anyhow!

Have a look at www.cottages4holidays-uk.com they show loads of cottages in the South East of England. Or if its just Sussex Cottages you are looking for try [[//www.sussex-cottages.com/

We've gone to the Isle of Wight for the last two years - ferries connect at Portsmouth Harbour and then there's connecting trains to Sandown or Shanklin, door to door in under 3 hours.

Again the IOW Ryde is really good as not only do you have the train, but most of the islands buses pass through Ryde.

Sheringham in Norfolk has a stop in the town centre, and it has a great beach as well as being a lovely little town. There is also a steam train that runs from there if you fancy something different. Just under 2 hours from Liverpool Street to Norwich, then about another 45 mins to Sheringham. Very lovely fishing town, with an old-fashioned feel to it.
