Travel to London - park n'ride style?

Is it possible to drive down to a tube station West side of London (off M4 / A4) and be able to catch tube in (St.Pauls area)? Want to leave the car over night - would it be safe / how much? Looking to take a family of 6 to London and finding cheapest way - trains still seem very expensive but maybe worth the hassle factor??? Travelling from Swindon - sometime mid August - no fixed dates yet.

We go to Greenwich and park the car there, then travel via Docklands Light Railway/Tube. It is doable but I don't know about the side you are coming from

lots of the stations getting closer to London have resident permits. Osterly Station (on Picadilly line) might be do-able - parking on a residential street.

Hillingdon on the A40 is doable, never tried it from the A4

next time the trick is to fix dates well in advance and buy supersaver train tickets

meant to say that the residential streets surrounding the tube stations have the permits.

I've used this one to do just that, is only just off end of M4, and 5 mins from Hammersmith tube

we were in london last weekend and docklands was closed and so was circle line, with other lines having partial closures too.
have you got a family railcard?

we parked at luton parkway and used the shuttle
(it added an hour to the journey but we felt more relaxed knowing the car was secure)

I think DH parks at Wimbledon and goes in from there.

From Hammersmith, can get District line directly to Blackfriars, then 10 min walk to St Paul's Cathedral

If you can drive to Epsom (Jct 9 M25) I have a parking permit for my very safe private cul de sac you'd be welcome to use. It's then about 30mins to Waterloo and then a nice stroll to St.Pauls.

It's a bit further down than you want to go but it's not easy to find parking near tube/train stations.

Thanks for the advice - now need to think about any specific dates or what we want to do etc. Have 2 weeks hols booked but nothing specific planned - wanted trips in UK as we have a French aide maman staying with us too.
