i fancy a bit of a holiday but have not planned anything. we have 2 whole months of holidays to fill so i reckon a week away might be nice.

anyone know of nice beachy places to take the kids in the 'van? they are 5, 4 and 2. we are near southampton - would quite like to go reasonably far afield for it to feel like a holiday, but shorter journey time would obv be a plus i guess. (we drove to scotland at half term and they think that was a bit too far lol)

We spent a lovely week in Tehidy, N Cornwall at the end of May, fairly sure the campsite takes vans, Google them. There is a nice kids play area which DS loved, not too far from beach and various attractions, easy to get to from A30

thank you yorky, will check it out

it's just so vast - amazing stretches of sky and sea !

wotnopulling · 06/07/2008 22:34

sheringham, n norfolk. the town that said 'no' to tesco. sweet and old fashioned in a working town with steam train line sort of way. as maryannsingleton says fab beaches all along there. i really like n norfolk. v restful.

can't recall sites off top of head but lots there. also wells next sea lovely and wassisname, er, holt, bit twee but heck, you're on mumsnet, you're on holiday, no harm in coming over a bit cath kidstone and farrow and ball every now and then is there?

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2008 22:36

I like to come over a bit Farrow and Ball now and again !!
We are heading to Suffolk in the hols to Walberswick and Southwold - it doesn't get more Kidstonesque !

wotnopulling · 06/07/2008 22:42

ooh, one thing. defo not kidstonesque, avoid the shire horse centre unless you hardcore animal rights enthusiast. i wasn't happy to have 2 y.o ambushed by photos of slaughtgered calves in one of the barns.

There is a lovely campsite at Stiffkey on N Norfolk coast, just along from Holkham - but not sure if they accept camper vans?

Trips to see the seals fom Morston, Boat to Scolt Head, fabulous beaches at Thornham, Brancaster, Wells (which also has great pinewoods behind) Holkham, oh, just search Norfolk and my name for loads of comprehensive postings!

Blu · 06/07/2008 23:01

You can hire wonderful beach huts by the week on Wells beach - google 'pinewoods holiday park wells-next-the-sea' and book in advance.

wotnopulling · 06/07/2008 23:19

yes, stiffkey! the vicar disgraced himself 'saving' fallen women so turned his hand to lion taming. was he eaten by a lion or is that wishful thinking on my part?!

i think you can also rent beach huts by the day too - tho blu i think expert to my couple of visits so don't take my word for it.

seal trips fab.

i want to go back now!

Amphibimum · 07/07/2008 09:06

ooh! exciting sounding stuff! am lusting after a beach hut, so renting may just cure me, thanks!

Don't worry - the ferry will be very expensive in the hols!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/07/2008 14:05
