Friends & Family Railcard

I have a Friends and Family Railcard, that gives discounts on up to 4 adults (over 16) and 4 children.

Does anyone know, do I have to have a child with me? Could 2 adults travel on it? I’m think of me (card holder) and DS (17) being the adults.

Yes, you need a child to travel with you for it to be valid. It is in the T&C’s.

You have to have a child with you - which is massively annoying when I'm taking the kids to stay with grandparents and returning on my own!

Yeah it only gives a reduction if you have a child with you

When we had one it would invariably stop one of the children at the barrier for the tickets to be checked. With every other railcard I’ve had that never happens.

If you don't travel regularly with children, you could get a two together railcard for you and DS17.
Or he travels half price on a 16-17 railcard and you pay full price.
