Where would you go in Europe for a few days in October?

Thinking of getting away for a few days in October but really can’t decide where to go.
I’d like somewhere that’s nice to walk around, has good food and a bit of atmosphere, with hopefully some decent weather too. Not really looking for a beach holiday, just somewhere where we can explore a little, eat well and take things easy.
I’ve been thinking about Italy or Spain, but I’m open to pretty much anywhere in Europe.
Where have you been in October that you really enjoyed?

We’re off to Edinburgh on the train! Not for the weather, obvs.

I might go to St Ives or Paris on the train and save some carbon miles.

Venice - so much nicer out of the summer busier months.

Cadiz is excellent for wandering around. Gorgeous weather in October, and half an hour on the train from Jerez.

A couple of years ago we did Granada in October, mainly for the Alhambra palace. We actually found lots to do in the city and it has a lovely atmosphere.

We’re heading to Crete for a few days to explore the labyrinths etc

Porto, Santiago, Berlin, Split, Rome - all places we have been in the autumn. Enjoyed them all.

Yeah, train travel would be nice actually. I’ve always thought it’s a much better way to see a bit of the journey too.

Oh nice, do share how you find it when you’re back. I’d love to hear how it is there in October.

Thanks, Cadiz sounds really nice for October. I hadn’t thought about it before, so I’ll have a look. Granada sounds tempting too, especially if there’s more to see than just the Alhambra.

Sarajevo. Most interesting city in the balkans. Partly like Vienna - party like Istanbul. If you have time, visit Mostar aswell. Really nice in October, sunny and warm, not jot.
