Can I reclaim the full fare for a cancelled rail journey?

This is pastures new for me as I'm usually elsewhere on MN, so I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this.

Last week I attempted a rail journey to another city, using two trains each way. However, I didn't get on any train as there were trespassers on the line before my first train even arrived at my station. After almost an hour of waiting for the train I gave up, as there was no point in travelling as I would be too late to do what I had intended to do.

So I looked at Delay Repay, which is all automated, all online with no chance of direct contact to ask a question of the train company. My question is this: can I reclaim 100% of my ticket price? I get the impression from the table I looked at that I might only get 50% of the outward ticket.

I hope this makes sense.

Has anyone reclaimed the full amount before and how did you do it?

It's worth a try. Anything is better than nothing? Don't leave it too long otherwise you might be too late and get nothing back.

I've just done a delay repay claim, probably for the same journey. You don't put in the amount of your claim, just whether it was single/return and how long your train was delayed. I'd put two hours, it will let you know if it's wrong.

I had confirmation the same day that my claim was accepted.

I use trains all the time about 40% of my journeys are disrupted somehow and all have been refunded in full

You are entitled to a 100% refund for this but do not use Delay Repay

I did this recently as my train was cancelled halfway into my journey and I got the full amount back.

It was a return and I even still used the return part though I think they had voided it when I submitted the claim as it wouldn’t let me through any gates - staff didn’t care though, just checked the date and route and waved me through.

Had to chase the claim though, it said 10 working days and was much longer.

I had to abandon a journey this week, don’t go through delay repay, contact seller directly (Trainline for me) explained I didn’t do either journey (it helped I hadn’t scanned the tickets) and they did the full refund.
