Best Scones in London

I'm off to London for the day in a few weeks and have tickets to see the Queen Elizabeth II exhibition at Buckingham Palace. My husband is coming with me and we're there for the day. We have no other plans yet but what I would really like is to find somewhere to have a proper scone. I don't want a full on afternoon tea but I love a scone and a cuppa. Where is the best place, hopefully within a 30 minute travel time from the Palace? Doesn't have to be an amazing, expensive venue.....it's all about the scone. Although a nice atmosphere would be a bonus!

I don't have any personal recommendations for scones in central London (apart from Sainsbury's clotted cream scones) but I would look at Fortnum & Mason on Piccadilly (a 20 minute walk) or a branch of Caffe Concerto, which is a chain but the food is very good and the decor is impressive.

BTW, the exhibition is excellent!

The scones in Fortnum are to die for but they are mini ones and unless you pay for the very expensive afternoon tea they are only available in the ice cream parlour.

totally worth it though

I had a scone and cream in Caffee concerto yesterday and they were very nice but not a patch on Fortnums.

The vanilla scones at The English Rose Cafe just down the road from Buckingham Palace.
