How reliable are Glasgow to Arran train and ferry connections?

Planning to go to Arran from Glasgow as foot passengers in September. It's not possible to buy a combined train/ferry ticket anymore, so I'm wondering how reliable the trains are which connect with the ferries?

For example, a train arrives at Ardrossan Harbour at 12:06 and the ferry leaves at 12:30. Is this feasible? Or would we be better going on a train an hour earlier and hanging around for an extra hour?

If you miss your booked ferry, can you transfer your ticket onto the next one? (I can't see any info on this on the ferry website.)

Any advice greatly appreciated!

The ferry is minutes from the station it’s a few minutes walk. The timing is designed to marry up well.

If the train is late, would the ferry wait do you think?

The ferry won't wait for the train.

If you're going to worry about it, I'm a worrier, I'd get the earlier train and give yourself plenty of time. If you don't mind the risk then get the later train.

The train connections will be fine, your main worry will be if the ferry is actually going!

Well now you've given me something else to worry about!

September shouldn't be too bad, unless there's a storm or particularly bad weather it's probably one of the better times to go.
But those boats are ancient so they're always breaking and not running as a result.

It depends whether the ferry is going from Troon or Ardrossan. Troon - half an hour walk. Ardrossan- right next to station

Very reliable in general.
