Weekend in Newcastle with 13-year old daughter

I’ve booked a weekend in Newcastle in June with my teenager, who has just turned 13.

We have theatre tickets for the Friday night, but would love some suggestions for things to do with her.

Perhaps a special place for lunch or afternoon tea. She’s not sporty, loves reading & Animé, limited interest in shopping for clothes but ok with beauty & TK Maxx!

Any ideas would be grateful received! Thanks

tynemouth station has a market on a Sunday morning.

there’s a few shops that do anime and the like but not many.

China town! Awesome Chinese and Japanese supermarkets that she can stock up on random products to her hearts content.

Have a look at what’s on at the baltic.

thanks - some of these are great! I had no idea there was a Chinatown in Newcastle! She will love that!

It’s up by st James’ park. Head up, you can’t miss it!

if you’re that way then the stack outside st James’ park will have live music on too. Sometimes there’s a mass Saturday sing-along for the hundreds of people in there 😂

Check out this online magazine for family friendly events in the city.

I don’t know when you are visiting but there is SunnyCon Anime Expo 2026 (June 19–21, at St James Park.

Will you have access to a car?

Sunday morning market on the quayside is good for a wander. Takes you right under the Tyne bridge. You can walk along to the ouseburn from here too.

If its lovely weather take the Metro to Tynemouth (25 mins) for the castle, fab views, fish and chips, seaside - an afternoon or morning trip

There’s a Forbidden Planet Megastore not far from Monument in the centre of town - it has manga and anime memorabilia, and a huge sci fi/fantasy book section downstairs.

Nudo Malatang is my 14 year olds favourite place to eat in Newcastle.

We live up north and a few friends have done this mystery book thing lately and loved it. Found stuff they never knew about despite being Geordies
