Hi has anyone got any tips on places to stay in Edinburgh? Thinking air b and b, high ceilings old buildings, within walking distance of the town and that won’t break the bank. Or can anyone recommend a decent hotel

Edinburgh is extortionate, I often pay more there than in London. I don't do Airbnb there out of principle as locals are being priced out of the housing market and there are lots of hotels there. There are aparthotels too if you want a kitchenette. Sorry, just realised this isn't much help.

Look at the Sawday guide. A couple fo good ones on that if you can get in

Look at Stockbridge/New Town, Morningside, and Bruntsfield for old style buildings with high ceilings. Won’t be cheap but some beautiful properties. The bus service in Edinburgh is great if you want to be further out to reduce cost.

We stayed in Leith recently at Malmaison. Tram stop close by and some lovely cafes and restaurants within a short walk

What are your dates?

budget, dates and number of people? Also, if you need parking that seriously limits your options. Edinburgh has a very good bus service though and a tram.

I like this hotel. It’s an old house so a bit quirky. It’s in Stockbridge which is quieter than the city centre but has lots of good bakeries, coffee shops and restaurants. It takes about 15 minutes to walk into the centre but it is uphill on the way there. Think you can get buses if you don’t fancy the walk

there's buses stop practically outside the hotel if you don't want to walk up the hill!

Family have stayed at a variety of places in Newington which is on main bus route or 15-20 minute walk to town by road or alternatively through lovely Meadows park.
