Calais to La Rochelle France Toddler Ideas Anyone

Hi all, we are driving from Calais to la Rochelle next week stopping near Alencon overnight. Am looking for child friendly attractions enroute for my 2 year old - all suggestions very welcome.

Know this sounds particularly geeky but can anyone recommend any particular motorway stop / picnic areas that are good.

Thanks all

Hey there. We are going to a similar area (not far from La Rochelle) but going Portsmouth to Cherbourg. I am flying and leaving my mum, dad and dh to entertain ds (2.5) in the car. There will be lots of singing! My Mum has got a fuzzy felt game and we have one of those 'magic drawing' boards. Sorry, never done it before so no knowledge of picnic areas, but will bump this for you. Btw, do you know what the weather is like at the moment?

Beware, the loos at French motorway stops are notoriously vile - turkish squat type only

But there are often good play areas for little ones.

If you are going on the A16 the service area at Baie de la Somme here is a pleasant stop.

And grim as it feels to suggest it, the fast food chains like Quick and McDonalds often have a small wacky warehouse which is good for half an hours break.

Otherwise we tend to drive into services, stop if we like the look of, or go on to the next one. The ones with restaurants etc usually a better bet than the ones only with loos.

Hi all thanks for the messages. Chippy Minton will check out the service area at Baie de la Somme.

MerryMarigold spoke to someone there today and it was 25 degrees, hope it stays that way
